Hints for Parents:
Remember that quality practice is more productive than long periods of less focused practice.
Ideal/recommended practice times will vary per child. Small children may be only able to focus 10-15 minutes. As soon as you see your child start to not focus, it is probably a could time to change to a moving activity. Turn on some music and have them march to the pulse or open up their writing book and draw some notes. Make it fun!
It is best to pick a regular practice time for each day. Consistency is the key to success!
Practice at least five days per week. If this seems difficult, then work up to it. Create a successful habit.
Intermediate level students should practice 30-45 minutes.
Advanced students should practice 45-60 minutes.
Remember you get out of it what you put into it.

Student Hygiene
Hygiene for students is important. Students and parents are to take off their shoes and coats and place them neatly in the lobby. No food or drinks are permitted in the waiting area or in the music studio. Students are to wash their hands in the entrance bathroom area before coming down into the music school. If your child is sick, please have them sanitize well before coming to their lesson. I also encourage sick students to Zoom or Facetime their lessons. 24 hrs. notice is required for online lesson set up.
Attendance
Please read this important information:
A student that does not attend a lesson misses the benefit of that lesson. Your tuition reserves you a weekly time slot as well as benefits within the studio. There will be no rescheduled lessons when canceled by the student. No exceptions. However, there are two alternatives for missed lessons.
Option 1: If 24 hours' notice is given before a missed lesson, the student's lesson will be Zoomed or Facetimed at the student's scheduled lesson time and then sent to the parent's cell phone number.
Option 2: If 24 hours' notice is given before a missed lesson, the student may request by text or email to have a Zoom or Face Time lesson. FaceTime: ginabarton12@gmail.com or 801.895.6575. It is student's responsibility to call teacher at student's assigned lesson time for FaceTime or Zoom lesson.
If I must miss a lesson, which happens rarely, I will be happy to reschedule with you when there is a convenient time to do so.

Summer Music Camps
The two biggest struggles that music students encounter when studying a musical instrument are recognizing the music note names: notation, and decoding rhythm: the duration a note is to be held. Summer note reading and rhythm camps address these two very important areas of music that all musicians must be competent at to succeed as a musician.

Discontinuing Lessons
In the event that there is a decision to discontinue lessons, ONE month email notice is required. (not verbal notice) You will lose your deposit if you do not give one month's notice. One month notice allows time to finish up positively with the student and permits us time to fill the time slot.
STOPPING AT THE END OF SEMESTER INFORMATION:
Semi-private students AND group piano class students are required like private students, to email a 30 days notice if terminating lessons or stopping for the summer or winter semesters. Your Piano
We encourage our students to have the best instrument that they can afford. If you are in the market to purchase an instrument, please let us know, and we can give you a price quote that will enable you to purchase a higher-quality instrument. If parents are in the market to buy a piano or a digital keyboard, we offer our services (for a fee) to find a high-quality piano for a significant lower price than charged at music stores. We have saved parents thousands of dollars for their purchase of a quality instrument. There are many less-desirable pianos for sale that cost the same as quality pianos. Our clients are given a work sheet with the value of the piano they are purchasing and what is a reasonable amount to pay for it. We have accounts with piano dealers in the Salt Lake Valley who can give you a discounted price and take special care of you if we tell them that you are coming in to purchase a piano. Let us know before you go in to the music store and mention that Barton Music School sent you. (Gina Barton) email: ginabarton@musicteacherlessons.com
Other considerations for your piano:
- Piano should be tuned at least once a year. If you would like a recommendation for a tuner/technician, please ask.
- Piano needs to be in a well-lit area with appropriate heat and cooling. It should also be in an area with as few distractions as possible. Never put your piano by a heating vent or in direct sun light as this will harm your piano's wood and dry out the soundboard, causing It to crack.
Our Responsibility
Our responsibility to our students is to provide an clean atmosphere for learning and a well-balanced musical education. Professional standards will be maintained, and definite individual goals will be established for each student. It is our mission to give your child the best possible music education possible. We are a cutting-edge music school with some of the most current music apps, software, and techniques available in the country. We attend yearly the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) in Los Angeles to keep our studio up-to-date in the music industry as well as attend Music Conventions around the country.
Policy Changes
We reserve the right to update or modify these studio policies at any time and without prior notice by posting the revised version of these studio policies on the website. Your use of the site following any such change constitutes your agreement with all posted studio policy updates, and you will be subject to the terms of the revised studio policies. You may access the current version of these studio policies at any time on the website.
We reserve the right to publish photos of your children on studio Facebook page or studio website. We will never mention children's names as our students' safety is of upmost importance. Please notify us if you do not want any photos of your child posted.
